National Promotions Custom Labels Division
Duties included National Promotions and Marketing for the Custom labels Division. Worked directly on projects involving artist Richard Pryor’s Double Platinum album, Staple Singers, Isaac Hayes, Otis Redding, Booker T and the MG’s, Sam & Dave, Albert King, Barkeys, Bill Cosby and the entire roster of Stax recording artist. Other duties were those of a film consultant, was commissioned to do a promotional film on then Stax artist Louis Paul. I also had the pleasure of working in all other departments of the Stax Recording Company, sales, advertisting, publicity, promotions, marketing and productions. I later transferred to Washington D.C. to work with Independence Corporation of Amercia (ICA Records) in the marketing and promotions departments.
Newscaster, Reporter, Weathermen
May Broadcasting Company, (NBC-TV Affiliate): January 1970, Duties: Staff Announcer, Newscaster, Weatherman, and Reporter. Produced and hosted my own monthly television variety show “Black On Black”, show was aired during prime-time 6:30 PM Friday evenings for three years. Program also won an award given in the area of minority programming by then former Mayor and late U.S. Senator Edward Zorinsky, by a proclamation be named June 29th, “Black On Black Day” in the City of Omaha, Nebraska. I periodically hosted three other minority programs for television station.
1. “Come Together”, a television program geared towards Omaha’s at large community.
2. “Hiring Line” a job information television program sponsored through the Urban League of Nebraska.
3. “Expressions”, a television program dealing with “Problems and Issues” of the Omaha Black Community.
As Staff Announcer duties included doing both on and off camera commercials for television station. As newscaster and weatherman I was a part of the Channel 3 daily noon news team of Monday-Friday. As a reporter on the street I covered a variety of stories and shot news film of the 1970 riots in Omaha, Nebraska. Several of my stories were used on the “NBC Nightly News Show”.
Operations Manager, Program Director, Dis-jockey
KOWH AM & FM, Omaha, Nebraska, Reconciliation Broadcast Inc., January 1970 to January 1972: Duties Operations Manager, morning announcer (Dis-jockey) on the air from 6:00 AM until 10:00 AM. Other duties included supervisor of programming, news and traffic departments. Employed personnel in these departments, oversaw all programming policies, worked with national recording companies and distributors on new music, represented radio station on various committees and advisory boards, handled all public relations matters. Also, worked in the sales and marketing departments.
